Beautiful little 5 day old Emmalyn was so good for me. She slept and slept. Look at those adorable little rolls that she has! Congratulations to Myra & Matt on the birth of your second sweet little girl!

Ryland came to visit me when he was about 2 weeks old and what a sweetie he was! He wasn’t so sure about laying on his tummy, but as soon as I put him in the little wooden bucket, he snuggled right up and went off to sleep. 🙂 I think he is going to be tall just like his daddy. Look at those long fingers and toes he has! Enjoy some of my favorites of sweet Ryland.

I was honored to be invited to photograph Kay’s lovely Bridal Shower given to her by her all time favorite girlfriends. It was just the kind of shower that I like…no organized games but just a fun time socializing, eating good food, drinking a little wine and sharing great stories about the bride to be. There was a lot of laughter, a few tears and lots of fun sharing many wonderful stories about Kay and how each person knew her. As I heard each of her girlfriends share special times that they had spent with Kay, it was easy to see what a genuine friend that she is and how much fun she is to hang out with! As Kay and Grant’s special day approaches, I am getting more and more excited to be able to share that day with them. I hope you enjoy this lovely bridal shower honoring Kay.
What a wonderful mini vacation Douglas and I had visiting our good friends in Tucson, Arizona. It was especially nice to get away from the crazy winter weather in Virginia for a few days and enjoy the warm 80 degree temperatures of Arizona. Our friends, Chip and Dianne, live in a lovely development in the northern part of Tucson with gorgeous views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The first day we drove to the Sonoran Desert for a delicious picnic of grilled filet mignon, artisan bread, chips and pomegranate seeds. Delicious! We then hiked a short way through the desert enjoying the beautiful scenery. Gosh, did I love taking pictures of the many unique cacti and their blooming flowers. I can now identify the Prickley Pear Cacti, Teddy Bear Cholla, Pencil Cholla, Hedgehog Cactus (this is the one with the bright pink flowers), Golden Barrel Cactus and the huge Saguaros. The Saguaro Cacti only grow in the Sonoran desert and can live to be 150 – 200 years old. I thought it was so interesting how slow growing the Saguaros are. A 10 year old Saguaro may only be 1.5 inches tall! We also enjoyed the 4th Avenue Spring Street Fair that takes place each year in Tucson for a few days in March where artists from all over the United States line the streets in Tucson to show and sell their artwork. After running around Tucson, it was so nice to go back to Chip and Dianne’s house and relax by their pool and soak up a little Arizona sun. Oh, and I don’t want to forget the restaurants. Gosh, did we enjoy eating lots of great food at local restaurants in Tucson! Thanks Chip and Dianne for a lovely visit to your home in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. (Sorry about all the pictures of the Cacti, but if you know me you know how I love detail shots!)

This is Chip & Dianne’s adorable little pup, Flower. What a sweetie.
What a wonderful experience I had at my first Virginia Professional Photographer’s Association Convention in Richmond Virginia! I learned so much and now have lots of new photographer friends from all over Virginia. We had speakers come in from around the country who spoke on lighting, posing, creating videos, weddings, studio setup, pet photography and more. The most exciting part of the convention for me was the print competition where each VPPA member could enter up to 6 of their own prints. During the judging, members are able to sit in and listen as the prints are judged, which was a great learning experience for me. I was honored to receive 2 blue ribbons, 2 red ribbons and 2 white ribbons for my 6 prints that I entered. And, most exciting of all…I won the award for the most points earned for a first time entrant in the 2014 VPPA print competition. I also received the Randy Searle Scholarship along with this award. What an honor. Thank you to everyone who helped answer all of my many questions that I had about this competition. I couldn’t have done it without you. Posted below are my 6 competition prints order of how they were scored…2 blues, 2 reds and 2 whites.

Great job Gayle!! I am sure you were so happy!! I really love the afternoon light image. So pretty and elegant! Way to represent Harrisonburg!! 🙂
It was a cold, wintry day for Kay & Grant’s engagement session but it was just the perfect day for these two since they both love the out of doors! It was about 30 degrees outside and with the sun shining bright and the ground covered with snow it was a day that had to be enjoyed. I had so much fun with these two and I can’t wait till their lovely wedding in May which will also be held outdoors (but a little warmer) at Fort Lewis Lodge in Millboro, VA. Enjoy this fun couple.
Wedding details…oooh I love shooting details! I pulled together some of my favorite details from my 2013 weddings! Enjoy.
Meet adorable Kaiden who just celebrated his first birthday. Look at that sweet little face! Oh, my.
